As you can see, I came from China. Frankly, I prefer to categorize

ourselves based on gender rather than nation. But we still need to introduce

ourselves based on the countries we came from. We also have guest speakers

from other countries today, from Malaysia, France, Singapore, Russia, and

many more. We share different nationalities. It is with the development of

technology, the concept of "country" emerged, and so was the case for

civilization, society, and rules. The rule we had, was the rule of the jungle. To

stand in a higher position, there were and there are wars and killings. Every

piece of land suffered. Behind wars, death, and sin, we have religions to console

our souls. The West has the Bible, the East has Buddhism, and the Middle East

has the Quran. I visited churches, temples, and mosques. I also have friends

with different beliefs. No matter which religion, the main purpose of these

different faiths is to guide us towards a better place. While our religions show

us the virtues we long for, we cannot ignore the evil that exists around us. We

need laws and rules, and we can see our countries have been working hard to

stop crime and maintain order.

There are so many countries in the world, and they share different

development levels. The cause of the difference is the development of

technologies. The industrial revolution in the 16th century made Britain into

an empire on which the sun never sets. The second industrial revolution that

took place from 1870 to 1914 empowered the whole of Europe and Japan, at the

same time causing the two world wars. As the product of technological

development, World War One and World War Two, however, have taken

millions of lives away. Even nowadays, we are still recovering from the trauma

of World War 2. This is the power of technology. It is a double-sided sword. I

hold the same wish as every one of you. I believe the development of technology

should bring about justice, peace, democracy, and happiness. The main purpose

of developing technology is to create a better world for us to live in.

Peacefulness means should be employed as we share the power of

technology. In the post-World War 2 world, we have agreed that war is the last

mean we would want to use. We turned to business and trade, transfer of

technology, and charity, in the hope to help out those less developed countries.

The World Trade Organization serves as a good example.

As Chinese, and as a businessman from China, it is time for me to

talk about my country. Ancient China had started a network of trade, namely

the Silk Road, bringing China's products to the world, including china, tea, and

of course, silk. At that time, these Chinese-made items were considered luxury

items in Europe. Many European businessmen at that time became rich, thanks

to the Silk Road. We have recorded history that can tell us, that China never

started a war to gain economic benefits, but turned to the power of trade and

exchange. I believe that fair trade is an ideal means to help us achieve our goal,

by fostering social development, eliminating disagreements among races or

countries, and maintaining multilateral beneficial relationships. I believe we are

all here today for this very same purpose.
